The University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) has a tripodal mandate of teaching (Manpower development), research, (particularly problem directed and result oriented research) and extension services.

In order to put the extension mandate of the University into effect, UNAAB, on November 1, 1991 established the Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) and charged it with extension/outreach responsibilities. The AMREC approach to extension activities involves the adoption of model extension villages and the use of Interdisciplinary/Unified Agricultural Extension System (UAES) in agricultural technology transfer.

AMREC also facilitates implementation of projects among primary producers, private sector practitioners as well as researchers. It also integrates agricultural development projects with health and youth development issues to make its activities broad-based and holistic in scope. The Centre through its outreach activities regularly identifies farmers’ felt needs and production constraints/problems and makes efforts to address them.
